W.E. costley at home on the north Side of Middle Bosque
Friday October the 26th AD 1900 hundred Opened up quite a cloudy morning resembling
rain a great deal wind this morning from the South east dark and dreary The thermometer
at an earley hour to day Registers 70 Degrees tempature we were out of bed quite late
this morning on the account of the dampness of the morning but at last we Sumed up
courage, enough to a rise from our bed of rest clothed our Selves then went to work
as usual my wife prepared the fire in Stove then went to work to prepare our mornings
meal whilse i did the feeding of the hogs and fowls in a very Short while She had our
meal Served and on the table we then Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of
our mornings meal after we were through with my meal my wife taken care of breakfast
table. after She was through She then milked her cows with my assistance bring the
calves up off ove (of) the rainge as She had them Staked to grass after getting through
milking She then put away the milk that She had milked from her Cows. She then went
to work to making of a gown for John costley J M costleys Son and worked faithful on
it all day. before completing the job i have not done but little to day as the abcess
on my jaw has rendered my very miserable all the day through and Still continues to
give me great pain. at or near three o clock after we had eat our noons meal being late
in the day. after getting through with our meal. i Saddled my horse rode him then led
Old Judy mare too the Middle Bosque to water after they drank i then rode across the
creek on the South Side of Said Streem up on top of the bluff of the bosque Creek
then tied the mare too a tree to remain untill i could ride over to Crawford and
back as i had to get Some shugar for my wife and to get my jaw lanced as it were
giving a great deal of trouble but after purchasing the Shugar of w.T. Tadlock i
then walked down to Louey Leman to See them on buisiness and as Helmus Leman was
not in i did not effect any thing in my trip i then nocked a round in town forever
so long waiting for a Doctor to come in as all was out of Town but not one returned
untill i had to return back home So i had to leave for my place of a bode on the
account of growing late in the evening at did not get my abcess opened and Still
have to indure the pain as i returned to my place i brought Old Judy back home with
me after arriving at my place i dismounted from my horse Still Suffering a great deal
then unSaddled my horse then brought my Saddle and Shugar in doors hung my Saddle up
in the hall and put the Shugar on the dining table from that i walked out to my horse
mounted on him barback then led Old Judy to my field a bove the Railroad then turned
them in too graze after Securing of the gates i walked back to the house and hope (
helped) my wife to Stake the calves out at the Straws Stack to feed on the Straw
Stack after we were through with the calves i then prepared wood for night and
morning then brought it in doors whilst my wife did the churning of the milk then
putting a way the butter that She had just churned now as our days work is finished
we will go too our bed to Sufer hoping the the lord will releave our Suffering to
nigh and will also gard and protect us also through the present night as he has
through the day just passed and gone and when done with our frail bodys here on
earth to hand us down too our grave in peace with the Thee) and all man Kind and
in heaven Save us is my prayer to night- Amen
W.E. Costley at home near middle Bosque creek
Saturday October the 27th AD 1900 hundred Opened up quite a cloudy misty foggy
morning wind from the South The thermometer registers at an earley hour this
morning at 68 Degrees tempature. we were out of bed qute earley as i was feeling
Some what better than i have for Some while past. my wife also. after we a rose
from our bed of rest and put on our clothes we went to work as we usually do. my
wife attended to prepareing our morning meal whilst i fed the fowls in a very Short
while my wife announced our mornings meal Served on the table readey for to be eat
we then Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of the Same. After we were
through my wife then taken care of the breakfast table and put evry thing in
connection with her Kitchen and dining room in good order also (t)he Sleeping
department. She then milked her cows. after getting through with her cattol (cattle)
She then put a way the milk that She had milked in good order whilst i fed the hogs
and my male ox that i have tied up to keep him from braking in too the field. as it
was So damp and dreary earley i did not pretend to do any out door work as the mist
or fog is So heavey almost like untoo a Shower of rain from the South west not healthy
to be out in . On the last night past just after midnight it began to Shower from the
South east the cloud had the appearance of a heavey rain. but come light. my wife this
morning is trying her luck in the wheat light bread to bake although the weather is
unfavorable too the rising of the dough made out of the flour ground on the mill at
Crawford by a by Germon of the Town which makes nice bread After she was through
with her bread work She then milked her cows whilst i fed the hogs and the ox that
i had tied up too keep him out of the field. it is now growing Some what late and
change in the weather for the better . Still looks Sad and gloomey. as then day
passes a way. John Costley is annoying his grand mother a great deal this morning
as he wants to go where the other children are up at Mrs Richardsons as that is the
place that he calls home not knowing any better. he frequently calls for his PaPa
but too far off to administer to his call. at a bout 10-Oclock to day the wind
changed too the South west and become Some what cooler that it was in the early
part of the day. after a late hour to day i brought my teem down from the field
then curried and fed them whilst my wife prepared the noons meal after getting
of it Served and on the table and announced ready for eating we Seated our
Selves to the table then portaken of our meal after we we were through with
our meal my wife attended too her dinner table. She then dressed her person
and we road over to Crawford in my wagon to get Some chicken coops that I had
left over at that place and to get our mail after getting one of the coops that
was at James Downs i then drove down to Sam Clary premises to get a coop that i
had left there when i put in the wagon, the coop we then was conversing with the
familey as we did not get out of the wagon and.a in a Short time Ida Costley and
three of her Children come a long going to my house. So we drove out too the road
too where Ida was and my wife dismounted from my wagon and rode home in the buggy
with Ida and Grover and Luther Costley rode in the wagon home with me. So we drove
out for my place of a bode Stopping at the Bosque and watering my teem and filling
my barrel with water than drove out for my place of abode. after arriving at my
place the boyes and my Self dismounted from the wagon unhitched the teem from the
wagon then ungeered and fed them and Ida Costleys horse i then prepared Stove wood
for night and morning then the children brought it in doors for me. then Luther and
Grover Costley and my Self taken Ida Costley horse and Old Judy up too my upper
field and turned them in too graze to night. we then returned back to the house
and i then fed the hogs and Staked. the calves at the Straw Stack South of the house.
then come in doors washed my hands and face then we all eat our Evenings meal as my
wife had it Served and on the table readey for to eat. So we Seated our our Selves
too the table then potaken of our evenin meal having Ida Costley to dine with us.
and three of her Children to dine with us Luth(er) Grover and young Doctor Deen
Costley all of Waco. after getting through with the evenings meal. and the Supper
table cared far we then moved in too our bedroom and the woman began to Store away
there youngones as they were getting Some what Sleepy. then Ida began to Sew Some.
buttons on Some of her childrens garments whils my wife was buisey trying to bed the
young ones away. then the woman folk had a hog Killing time talking over times that
had past a way whilst i was buisily engaged recording of the labors that has been done
on the premises to day. It is still cloudey and resembles falling weather Now as the
days work is done we will depart to our bed of repose by first asking the lord to gard
and protect us through the present night as he has through the day just passed and gone.
and when done with these frail bodys of ours to hand us down to our grave in peace with
the (Thee) and all man Kind and in heaven Save us is my prayer to night.--Amen

Sunday the Lords day aday of rest we are commanded to neither work nor play because it
is gods (Gods) holey day October the 28th AD 1900 hundred Opened up quite a cloudey
morning much like falling weather wind blowing from the South west and very damp. The
thermometer registered at 70 Degrees tempature at an earley hour this morning. The
familey all but my Self were out of bed quite earley but as i rested very badley i
did not rustle out So Soon. as the balance but i was out of bed and clothes on and
my horse fed by the time that Ida Costley and my wife had my mornings meal Served
and on the table we then Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our Sabbath
mornings meal. when through eating of our mornings meal my wife attended too her
breakfast table whilst Ida Costley churned the milk for my wife to help her a long
in her buisiness. whilst i fed the fowls and hogs. So all went along Smoothley and
nicely. after my wife was through with her morning house hold work. She then milked
her cows. when She had finished milking of the cows and got her milk put a way then
my wife and Ida Costley Spent a few hours in a Sabbath rest and called to mind in
there conversation of the good old times that they had enjoyed in many days passed
and gone. and also there present family matters in general. whilst i was engaged
in taking a minute of there conversation of the deaths and burrials of there familey
and Kindred. whilst the children were out on the premises enjoying of them Selves in
drawing the little wagon that we Keep here for our grandchildren to play with when
they come to See the old folks at home. So it was a pleasant time to be Seen by all
of the familey that was present to witness the Sene of action. at a bout Eleven oclock
AM Saddled my horse then rode over too the Bosque . too look for the cows i found them
on the Bosque and Started them home drove them too the top of the mountain then
turned back and rode up the creek untill i come to the road that comes from the
Tubbs Prairie field to the creek i then taken it rode out . too where i once. lived .
in the fall of 1868 and .69. and from there i rode up opposite the Old Mill Place on
the Bosque Creek once called the Isaac Bibles mill and place i then turn for my place
of a bode and on the way i Stoped at the old well in Side of the bibles old Prairie
field the well that i once use water out of when i lived on the premises. i 1868 and
69- after examened the Spot where the well was at that time i found it fill up with
the washing of the field. after viewing the Situation of the Spot where it once was.
afterwards. i walked down to where there was a cotton wood tree Stood Some 2 and one
half feet through. growed. Since i have been living in McLennan county. from that Spot
i rode on down home with out Seeing a Solitary horse did not See. after arriving at my
premises i dismounted from my horse taken my Saddled off of my horse then fed him. i
then come in doors washed my hands and face then taken a Seat in the Sitting room and
taken a rest untill the rest of the familey could done eating of there noons meal when
when through. I then Seated my Self to the table then . Eat my dinner. all they were
through. with there meal. after getting through. i then geered Walker then hitched him
too Ida Costley buggy then Ida and My wife and Idas children mounted in her buggy then
drove for W. R Tubbs and Mrs Graves to See the children whilst i remained at home to
take care of the place and to attend too the horses. that was in the field watering
and feeding of them. and in a Short while after they had left Lum Wills Come to
See us and remained for some time. from which he left for his place of abode. after
he left the woman folks return from there viset and clamed to have had on there vistet.
a good time the(y) found all well but Mrs. Richardson (Graves) She was having the
chills and fever after they return home my wife milked her cows whilst Ida prepared
the evenings meal for the family. after i returned from the field i then fed the hogs
by that Supper was Served and on the table then we eat our evenings meal. when (we)
were through.my wife then taken care of the Supertable and put evry thing a way that
was used about the table then moved in our bed room then Ida and my wife done the talking
whilst i was recording of the labor performed on the premises too day. this has been
a nice day although Some what cloudey but not rained yet to do any good . as all of
the familey has gone too bed and is Sound a Sleep but my wife and my Self we will
follow Soot by first asking the lord to gard and protect us through the present night
as he has through the day just passed and gone. and when done with our frail bodys of
ours to hand us down too our grave in peace with the (Thee) and all man Kind and in
heaven Save us is my prayer too night------Amen

Monday October the 29th AD 1900 hundred Opened up quite a cloudy morning wind is
rather from the north. The thermometer registers at an earley hour this morning at
68 Degrees tempature we were out of bed quite earley this morning as Ida wanted to
go home and was anxious to get an earley start. after the women folks had prepared
the mornings meal we then seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our
mornings meal when through with our mornings meal the women folks taken care of
the breakfast table whilst. Luther Costley and i walked up too my upper field.
after Idas horse and old Judy mare, after getting them down too the lot we fed
them then made preperation to box up Some turkeys for Ida to take home with her.
after getting them boxed i then caught and geered the horse for Ida and the children.
hitched him too the buggy they mounted in too the buggy then drove out for Waco there
present place of a bode. whilst i then Saddled my horse mounted my Self on him then
rode out in too the pasture to drive up a cow and calf that had got out of the pen
on last night past. After my long Surch for the cow i failed to find her i returned
back too my place dismounted and hitched him to a post come in doors and taken a
rest for a bit i then mounted on my horse led old Judy then rode to middle Bosque
to water my teem after they drank drank i the(n) tied old Judy to a tree then rode
over to Crawford to get my mail after arriving at the city i found that the South
boud was some what late but remained at the city untill it arrived and passed off
the time very pleasantly what time i was in the place but did not in crease my mail
any by waiting for the Same for when the mail was opened the were nothing for me. i
then mounted my horse Struck for Robinsons pasture to look for my out horses as they
had left my pasture after coming in too my pasture or Robertsons pasture i Soon come
on too them i then drove them too the Bosque near my west gate on the creek. After
they had drank i then drove the bunch in to my pasture closed the gate then drove
the bunch too my place and put my part of the bunch in my lot and Salted them. After
wards i rode too the Bosque after old Judy that i had left tied too a tree when i
rode over to Crawford after watering of her a gain i brought her back too my house
then fed her from that part of the work i mounted on my horse the(n)re drove the
part of the bunch of horses belonging to Thompsons ranch back too his pasture and
turned them in i then secured the gate then rode down to the Bosque and find Some
gaps a long the creek to prevent my Stock from going out in too Robertsons pasture.
After getting of it fixed the best i could with the material that i had to work on i
then rode on down the creek to look for one of my wifes milk cows i found her just
above my watering place i started the cow and She went to water before going home.
After drinking i then moved her out too my place and pened her tied up her Calf and
turned her out a gain. from that job i then taken my teem too my upper field and
turned them in too my field to graze to night. after Securing of the gate i then
taken a walk a cross my cornfield to look for my ox that has been in the habit of
getting in too my cornfield but i did not See him in Site i then pulled a few
piles of corn to feed on after getting of it pilled i then walked down to the
house abtained a Sack then walked back too where i had pulled the corn and put
it in my Sack and brought it too my crib and empted it out on the Floor. then
Shucked and Shell Some corn then fed the fowls and hogs So that ended the the
out door work as it was So late in the day wen (when) we eat our dinner we did
not provide any evenngs meal. So i went to work. and made a record of the labor
performed on the premises to day and also of the weather my wife has complained
a great deal of the tooth ache all through the day. and also to night. Now as the
days work is finished we will go to our bed of repose by first asking the lord to
gard and protect us through the present night as he has through the day just
passed and gone. and when done with these frail bodys of ours to hand us down
