Thursday October the 11th AD 1900 hundred. Opened up qiute a nice clear morning the
Sun rose this morning bright and clear wind from the NE earley but was very feble
in its actions. The thermometer this morning registers 52 Degrees tempature at an
earley hour today we we (were) out of our bed of Slumber this morning quite late as
we over Slept our Sleves, but when we did a rise and get our clothes on we went to
work in earnest as we felt Some what in a better condition than we have in Some time
past my wife Kindled the fire in the Stove whilst i built one in the fire place. She
proceeded to prepare the mornings meal whilst i fed the fowls and the hogs. by that
time She had the mornings meal Served and on the table readey for to eat we then
Seated our Selves too the table and portaken of our meal when through with the
mornings meal my wife proceeded to the cow lot then milk her cows whilst i diped
the water out of the barrel on my wagon emptening it on one on the ground as i had
to have the wagon to hall Sam Clary a load of wood at Crawford. after i was through
i then walked too my upper field brought my teem down too the house geered then
hitched them too the wagon. Then my wife and my Self mounted in our wagon them drove
too the bosque breaks after a load of wood for Sam Clary. after getting of the wood.
i them drove back too my place of a bode. after arriving at the place. we dismounted
from the wagon and (my) wife come in doors and the first thing She Spied was an Envelop
which it contained a telagram on the death of Malinda Costley of Mills County Texas.
which was a Sad affair but it is a det that one and all has to pay Sooner or later.
The telegram was tacked too the facen of our hall door. I then ungeered my teem fed
Judy. then put my Saddle on Walker mounted on him then rode of over to Crawford to See
if i could hear where Jack Costley was going to burry his wife at but was not able too
find out. i then returned back home unsaddled my horse then fed him as i had fed the
mare before leaving far Crawford i then come in doors washed my hands and face then
Seated our Selves too the table and portaken of our noons meal after getting through.
i then geered my teem hitched them too my wagon then i mounted up on the wagon then
drove for Crawford too Sam Clarys place of a bode with a load of wood and a turkey
that my wife had Sold too Sam Clary after putting the turkey in the yard under a good
Shade i then unloaded the wood at Sam Clarys wood yard then up in Crawford to See if
there was any potatoes come on the cars from Joshus Johnson County for me as George
Frownfelter wrote me to day that he had Sent a couple of Sacks but they had not come
i then drove. for my place of a bode after arriving at home i ugeered my teem then
fed them i then fed the fowls and hogs then prepared Stove wod (wood) as well as fire
place wood and brought it in doors by that time my wife had the evenings meal Served
and on the table So we seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our meal when
through with our meal my wife taken care of her Supper table, after She was through,
we then moved in too our bedroom then occupied our Same old Stand She undertaken to
write a letter too her daughter, Virginia Frownfelter but fail as her lamp did not
give good light So i gave my desk and lamp up to her to finish writing of her letter
when She was through i taken possession of my table then proceeded to finish recording
of the labors of the day and also the weather. This has been a nice cool day the Sun
has Shown very bright and has been clear all day not a cloud to be Seen in the element
to day. Now as our days work is finished we will go too our bed of repose by first asking
the Lord to gard and protect us through the present night as he has through the day
just passed and gone. and when done with these frail bodys of ours to hand us down
too our grave in peace with the (Thee) and all man Kind and in heaven Save us is my
prayer to night+Amen

Friday October the 12th AD 1900 hundred opened up quite a cool morning pirfectley
clear wind from the west moving Slow by. The thermometer registers at an earley
hour this morning at 42 Degrees tempature the lowest that it has been Since last
Spring earley my wife and my Self were out of bed quite earley to day on the account
of being rather cool and we over Slept our Selves. however when we did a rise from
our bed of rest we taken up our old occupation that we are accustomed to doining
prepareing to coook and eat to Sustain life as i first built a fire in the fire
place for my wife to get up by after She a rose and had dressed her Self She
proceded to the Kitchen Kindled the fire in the Stove then went too work too prepare
the mornings meal. whilst i did the feeding after we were through with our meal my wife
milked her cows whilst i walked up too my field a bove the railroad and brought my teem
down too the lot then fed them after they were through i then taken them too Middle
Bosque to water. after returning with them i tied them up i then went too work to put
a ax helve in my ax as my old one had gave way on me. after getting of it helved i went
too work to grind my ax that i had just handled and ground on it with the help of my
wife untill twelve o clock today from which i left of grinding eat our noons meal as
it was Served and on the table. after we were through with the meal i then Saddled
walker mounted up on then rode for Crawford to mail a letter for my wife and also to
See whether the Potatoes had come too the Depot from Joshua or no that George
Frownfelter had billed to me at Joshua or not after arriving at the place i Soon
found out that they had not come. So i returned backtoo where i had hitched my horse
mounted on him then rode for my place of abode. after arriving at home i dismounted
from my horse unsaddled my horse. and hung it up in my hall. then geered my teem then
hitched them too my wagon then my wife and i mounted in the wagon. then drove for the
Bosque breaks to get a load of wood for the house after getting of it cut i then loaded
it on my wagon then drove for my place. after arriving at the Spot i the ungeered my
teem Saddled Walker then rode him and led old judy down to Middle Bosque too water after
they were through drinking i then rode back too my house unSaddled my horse then fed
the teem. i then began too prepare wood for the house after getting of the wood chopped
i then taken my teem too my upper field and then turned them in to graze after Securing
of the gates i then walked back too the house then Staked the calves out on the grass
afterward i fed the hogs then come in doors washed my hands and face by that time my
wife had her evening meal Served and on the table readey for too be eaten So we Seated
our Selve down too the table then portaken of the Same when through my wife taken care
of her Supper table. then we moved in too our bed room too a fire. i then began to
record or finish recording of the labors of the day and also the weather as it has been
through the day this has been a nice day all the way through untill just before the Sun
Sit from which there was a dard cloud arose in the west. but did not remain a great
while the wind was quite Shifty all day and feeble likewise . now as our days labors are
finished we will go too our bed of repose by first asking the Lord to gard and protect
us through the present night as he has through the day just passed and gone and when

Saturday October the 13th AD 1900 hundred Opened up quite a nice morning but Some
what cool the Sun rose nice and clear but Some what cloudey in different parts of
the elements The thermometer registers at an earley hour this morning at 48 Degrees
tempature. The wind not Sturing but the presure of the air is from the South East
rather my wife and my Self were out of our bed of repose quite late this morning
on the account of not feeling So very well but however we made out at last to a
rise from our slumbering place and get our clothes on then went to work as usual
i prepared the fire in the Stove then my wife prepared the mornings meal whilst
i fed the fowls and did other work a round the premises after my wife had Served
the morning meal and had placed it on the table we then Seated our Selves too the
table then portaken of the Same when through with our meal my wife preceeded to the
cowpen then milked her cows whilst i brought my teem down from the fields then fed
them. after they were through eating i then geered and hitched them too my wagon
then drove them too middle Bosque to water my teem and too hall a barrel of water.
after arriving at the old Stamping ground i then empted the water out of the barrel
on the wagon in too one on the ground in order that i could have my wagon to use
otherwise. So when my wife and mySelf mounted our Selve as i wanted her for compane
(company) and then i drove over too the Bosque breaks to get a load of cord wood to
take too Will Allen of Crawford after getting of it loaded i then drove back home
we dismounted from the wagon i then taken my teem from the wagon then fed them
whilst my wife Served a Snack for us to eat. when Served and on the table and
announced ready for to eat we then Seated our Selves to the table and portaken of
our noons meal. when throught with our meal i then hitched my teem too my wagon then
drove over too Crawford and delivered my load of wood to the the Gentlem(an) that
lives on the E D Costleys place in the Town of Crawford. then payed the money to
Will.Allen one Dollar and fifty cents as i was owing of him i then paid too
Old man Tadlock too Dollars and taken his receipt for five Dollars as i had halled him
a cord of wood in Spring last past. Then after getting through with my buisines i mounted
in my wagon then drove for my place of a bode. after arriving at home i then ungeered my
teem and taken them too the upper field and turned them in too graze i then Secured the
gates and walked back too my house Stacked then fed the calves, i then walked up to near
the Railroad to fiso a piece of fence that my mail (male) broke through last night after
getting of it fixed i then walked back too my house and prepared wood for night and
morning for Stove and fire place the brought it in doors. by that time my wife had her
evening meal Served and on the table readey for to eat. we then Seated our Selves
Too the table then portaken of the Same after we were through with the meal my wife
taken care of the Suppertable then put evry thing in good Shape for the next meal She
Then did her churning as the milk would not wat (wait) untill morning with out all going
to whey. whilst i finished recording the labor performed too day by my wife and my Self
also a discreption of the weather the wind Since Earley morning mad(e) a change in too
the South east after we was done with the churning and the record to day we then departed
too our bed of repose. I made a misstake in Stating that i hope (helped) my wife too
churn when i was readey to assist her and went to releave he(r) She announce that the
churning was finished and She did not nead my assistance about it what ever So that
ended the churning matter at once So She taken the butter up whist i come to a close
with the record and when each one was through with our work we then went too our bed
to rest and Sleep, but before departing to rest i call upon the lord to gard and protect
us through the the present nigh(t) as he has throught the day just passed and gone
and when done with these frail bodys of ours to hand us down too our grave in peace

Sunday October the 14th AD 1900 hundred being the Sabba(th) day and a day of rest Opened up
quite a nice morning wind from the South Thermometer registers at an earley hour this
morning at 58 Degrees tempature very clear day Sun Shines very warm rather a weather breeder
we were out of our bed of rest quite late this morning as my wife was not feeling So well She
was Suffering from a pain in her Stomache and Side but after So long a while i arose from my
bed of rest clothed my purson then Kindled a fire in the Stove to prepare our mornings meal
She then a rose put on her clotheing then went to work to prepareing our mornings meal whilst
i fed the fowls Calves and hogs still had not brought my teem from the field after i had
finished feeding i then washed my hands and face by that time my wife called to me to come
too my breakfast as She had it Served and on the table readey for to eat we then taken Seats
too the table afterwards portaken of our meal. when through my wife milken her cows whilst i
walked up too my field K E. of the Railroad and brought my horses down too the house watered
and fed them after i were through i then refixed Some yokes that i had put on my cattle to
Keep them out of my field then after my wife had completed her house work we then taken a
rest for Some time as it was the Sabbath day and aday of rest. at about Eleven oclock Am
my and my Self wrote a leter each one of us too our Son J M Costley of Mills County Texas.
She then prepared our noon meal and i fed the teem in order when we eat our meal vituals
we could take it too the post office. when She had it Served and on the table then portaken
of our meal when through i caugh curried then geered and hitched Walker too the buggy about
that time Cora Kitty and Effy and Walter Tubbs come down to See us. So we all taken a drive
over too the city of Crawfor to mail Some letters an to get a Jug of artecian water for my
wife too drink and too get the mail but the train was not on time, So we mounted in our
buggys, then drove too our place. my wife wrode in Cory Tubbs buggy whilst Effy ad Walter
Tubbs rode in my buggy going over there and coming back Effy and. Kitty rode with me untill
we come too my field gate on the East Side or corner of my farm there we Seperated and each
one taken his buggy and then departed too our place of abode after arriving at home i ungeered
my teem then watered Old Judy mare afterwards i taken them too my upper then turned them in
too graze i then taken a walk out around my corne in the rounds i found my male or in the
field i drove him out in the pasture then fixed the place the best i could, i then come too
the house and fed the hogs and prepared Stove wood for night and morning . by that time my
wife had the evenings meal Served to eat So we again eat our meal as we usually do, after
getting through my wife taken care off the Supper table after getting through with the meal
i went too work to finish recording of our days labor that we have performed today which
is no great deal at any rate but however we have made it through So far. all right This has
been a warm nice day all the way through with a Soft South wind blowing Stediley (steadily)
up to a bout Sunset. this evening from which it went down with the Sun. and is very calm
to night- now as the days work is finished we will go too our bed to rest by first asking
the Lord to gard and protect us through the present night as he has through the day just
passed and gone, and when done with these frail bodys of ours to hand us down to our
grave in peace with the (Thee) and all man Kind and in heaven Save us is my prayer too

Monday October the 15th AD 1900 hundred Opened up quite a nice day wind from the South
pleasant The thermometer registored at an earley hour this morning at 58 Degrees
tempature i was out of bed quite earley this morning the first thing i did was to walk
up too my field North east of the railroad and bring my teen down to the lot then fed
them and the fowls during this time my wife had arose from her bed of rest then clothed
her person and went to work at prepareing of the mornings meal in a Short while after
i was through She had the meal Served and on the table and announced readey for too eat
we then Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our mornings meal when through
my wife milked her cows whilst i watered my teem after returning back too my lot with
the teem i then geered them after my wife had finished milking of her cows She assisted
me in greesing of my wagon after getting of it greesed i hitched my teem too the wagon
then my wife and my Self mounted intoo the wagon i then drove too the bosque breaks
after a load of wood after getting of the wagon loaded i the(n) drove back too my
residence there i left my wife i then drove for Crawford. with my wood to deliver the
Same too Professer Ellis that is teaching the Crawford high School after getting
unloaded i then drove down too the postoffi(c)e to get my mail and as the
Postmistress was not in i had too unhitch my teem and wait for her arrival during
my Stay i bought Some cheese from murchat (merchant) Graham. So Soon as the post
mistrees arrived i obtain my mail i then hitched my teem too the wagon a gain then
drove for my place of a bode after arriving at my place i ungeered my teem then fed
them the(n) eat my noons meal as my wife had eat hers me being late Something near
too Oclock in the eaven (evening). after i was through with my meal i then Saddled
Walker rode back to Crawford to get Some wire Steples after i had obtained the
Steeples (staples) i mounted my horse then rode for my place of abode. after i had
arrived at my place i dismounted from my hor(s)e pulled the Saddle off ove (of) my
horse then my wife and my Self walked up near too the railroad north from my house to
fix a piece of wire fence. that my Stock had broken, after working at it ever So long
my mail (male) come a long and Soon tore it down a gain So i Set my dog on him and he
drove the lad too the pen then we pined him and i tied him too a tree as i thaught that
a better plan. I then put my Saddle on old Judy mare rode her too the Bosque to water
and back again i then taken the teem too my upper field then turned them in too graze
too night after Securing of the gates i then walked back to my house the(n) brought in
night water washed my hands and face then my wife and my Self Seated our Selves too The
table then eat a cold Snack for the evenings meal when we were through with our meal
my wife taken care of her Suppertable after She was through with the Same. we moved in
too our bed room and i prepared a fire in the fire place as it had turned rather cool
Since night fall. then we Seated our Selves too our table She engaged her time in reading
of the news whilst i was engaged at recording of our dailey labors and the weather also.
There was a heavey cloud formed in the Northwest just before the Sun Set then worked
around to the South west and there remain in that part untill i went to bed. now as our days
work is finishe(d) we will go too our bed too rest and Sleep, by first asking the Lord
too gard and protect us throug the present night as he has through the day just passed
and gone. and when done with these frail bodys too hand us down too our grave in peace

Sunday the Sabbath day a day of rest and the Lords day we are commanded to neither work
nor play for it is the Lords holey day October the 21th AD 1900 hundred Opened up quite
a nice cool morning wind from the west early in the fore noon The thermometor at an
earley hour this morning registered 60 Degrees tempature. As usual my wife and my Self
were out of our bed of repose quite late this morning on the acount of being wet and damp
as the drouth was broken last night by a nice rain from the South and South west. which.
was greatley neaded there were considerble lightning in the four part of the night on the
last night just passed in the north west. which Showed that the heaviest of the rain lay
in that direction passing northward, in its course. After arising from our bed of repose
and getting on our garments i then built a fire in the Stove then my wife went to work to
prepare the mornings meal for we too old people as we are here just a lone whilst i fed
the Stock, after i were through feeding breakfast was unnounced readey too be eat i then
washed my hands and face, we then Seated our Selves down too the breakfast table then
portaken of our Sabbathe morning which we have been Spared by the Higher power to live
to eat, after we were through with the meals vituals my wife with my assistance milked
her cows after She was through She then put a way her milk in good order then went too
work too cleaning up her Kitchen and putting evry thing in good repare a gain. when
through with that part of the work She then put her Sleeping department in good Shape
for the day. Whilst i went too work to recording the proceedings of the beginning
actions of the days labors of my wife and my Self at this writing being Something near
nine Oclock in the morning , it has become quite clear and bright and the Sun is
Shining very bright and the wind, blowing Soft and blowing at a reped rate from the
west very bracing too the Sistem of anyone. as we have had from the East for the last
18 day a very disagreeable wind of a Stickley n ature from which has caused more or
less Sickness in our locality or country for the last four months past we have
occupyed our time to day in reading the news papers printed in 1899 reviewing then
over and over again with the exception of what time it taken me to go too my upper
field being my horses down too the house then water and feed them I then taken a
rest. for Some time then prepared Stove wood for my wife to prepare the noons meal
but bein very late. in the evening. after She had prepared the meal and placed it on
the table then we Seated our Selves too the table and was eating our meal and was a
bout half through eating when McCollem and Shafner drove up to See if i had in my
possession and of the Crawford advate papers published by Parson Greshurh which i
did not have no coppy of the Same. they then mounted in there buggy and drove for
Crawford and a bout that time A. G. Black and Old Uncle Billey Downs and Aunt
Betsey Downs drove down too my house as the old people wanted to Stay with us for
a bit being once our old neighbors Several years ago after A.G. Black remained
with us for a bout too hours he then hitched his teem too the wagon then mounted
in the wagon then drove back to his place of a bode. as he had onley come to bring
the Old folks too my house. to Stay with us. for a while after conversing. a while
with the old folks i then went to work and fed my hogs then Staked the calves out
on the grass. i then fed and watered my ox that i had tied up. when through i then
taken my teem. too my upper field and turn them in to graze after Securing of the
gates i then walked back too the house then prepared wood for the Stove and fire.
wood and brought it in doors to be handy in the morning. then as the evenings meal
was Served and on the table we all Seated our Selves too the table then portaken
of our evenings meal when we were through with our meal and the Suppertable was
cared far we then move in too our bed room. by a good fire then the old folks did
the talking whilst i finised recording of the labor that had been performed on
the premises. too day this has been a very blusterous day all the day through.
but to night it is calmed down fixing for a frost. Now as the days work is done
we will go to our bed or repose. by first asking the Lord to gard and protect us
through the present night as he has through the day just. passed and gone. and
when done with these frail bodys of ours. to hand us down to our grave in peace
with the (Thee) and all man Kind and in heaven Save us is my prayer to night.-Amen
