Friday august the 31st AD 1900 hundred opened up quite a cloudey
damp disagreeable morning very wet under foot and a heavey dew
or a mist of rain through the last past night, The thermometer
registers at an earley hour this morning at 72 Degrees tempature.
we were permited by the higher powers to a rise from our bed of
repose and gave health and Strength Sufficient to go too our dailey
labors a gain. i prepared the fire in the Stove for my wife to
Serve our mornings meal by She went to work and in a very Short
while had it Served and on the table announced readey for to Eat
we then Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken
of the Same. when through my wife then fed her young fowls and
her hoggs that She has cooped up to Keep them from Ketching of
her young chickens then milked her cows whilst i brought my
teem from the upper field and fed them i then Saddled Walker
mounted on him then led Redbird taken them to the Bosque to
water. After they were throug drinking i then rode over to
Crawford Stopping at one of my neighbors that is living on E.D.
Costleys old place to See the woman as She was Sick in bed and
have been for Some time past after remaining with the familey
for a while i bid them the time of day then mounted on my horse
leaving Redbird tied to a tree untill i returned from Crawford
and rode for the city to get a couple of pounds of 8 penny nails.
After purchasing of the nails from Sutton i then called at the post
office for mail but there were not any for me So i mounted my horse
then rode for my place of abode coming by E.D. Costleys old homestead
and getting Old Redbird and leading him home with me after arriving
at home i then dismounted from my horse and unsaddled him, then fed
my teem after i was throug i looked a round for a Suitable place for
a hog pen as i had to build one to put my hogs in after viewing the
Situation of the ground all a roud i concluded to put them back in
the old pen that i have always used for a number of years past. i
then come in doors Seated my Self down by my desk the (then)
commence to record what labor that had been done by my wife and
my Self up to 12-oclock noon to day and the condition of the weath.
the South wind has been been quite Strong to day and the appearance
of more rain was good up to Eleven oclock to day but after that time
the clouds become higher and the wind Stronger and the Sun much warmer
and the Sky much bluer than they were previous to the time mentioned
of above at or near 12-oclock today we eat our noons meal, after we
were through and my wife had taken care of her dinner table then put
evry thing in good Shape , we then taken a Short rest before going
to work a gain the Thermometer at too-oclock to day registered 86
Degrees tempature Now my wife is going to the wash tub to wash our
clothes this evening as it has turned out Such a nice evening and
the wind blowing So cool and nice to what it is been in the habit
of doing for ever So long thereappears to be a great change in the
atmosphere to day evry thing has a Sound of fall of the year even
too the earth Seems brighter than common. and the elements brighter
and pureer at or near half past too-oclock i began to clean up a
round my old hog pen in order to put Some more hogs in it i worked
Some half hour or more and there was a cloud Sprung up in the South
with a mist of rain So that checked me for a while i then ungeered
my teem put them in the Stall and fed them Some Shucks and hay as
they appeared to be very hungry. i come in doors Seated my Self down
by my desk then began to record what had been done in the way of labor
Since 12-oclock today it checked my wife from washing although She had
been washing for Some time i had halled a barrel of water from the Bosque
before i began to work on my hogpen and i just tied up my horses
calculating to go to braking Stuble ground again after working on my
hogpen but the mist and cloud checked me for the evening . but however
i Kept my Self buisey employed Keeping a record of our days labor and
the weather.my wife was buisily engaged churning of her milk and doing
other house work. after the Shower or mist of rain was over with i then
went to work a gain getting it in a Shape to put hogs in again, as part
of it was torn down. After my wife was through with her churning and the
butter taken care of She then hung he (the) clothes out that She had
washed during this time i taken my teem too the upper field turned them
in to graze i then walked back too the house watered and fed the calves
as it was too wet to Stake them out to grass. Now as our venings meal
is Served and on the table we will eat it after we were through with
our meal my wife taken care of the Supper table whilst finished up
Recording of out days toil and the different changes of the weather
through the day . Now as we are through we will go to our bed of repose
by first asking the Lord to gard and protect us through the present
night, as he, has through the day just passed and gone. And when done
with these frail body of ours to hand us down to our grave in peace
with the (Thee) and all man Kind and in heaven Save us is my prayer
to night- Amen

Saturday September the first AD 1900 hundred- opened up a cloudey
Still clost morning very warm wind from the South much like falling
weather. Thermometer at 8-oclock this morning registered 74 Degrees
tempature. i was out of bed quite earley close (cloths) on and at
work on a hogpen my wife was up also and hurriedly prepared the
mornings meal So She could be at work to finish up her washen as
She did not get through with on yesterday. So after our mornings
meal we went to work a gain i to working on the hog pen and my wife
too the wash tub. Although it Seemed in appearance that it would rain
any moment but before going to work i walk up too the railroad to See
about the turkeys as they had lit out for the Railroad after arriving
at the place i found that they had crossed the railroad and gone in
too my upper field to hunt grasshoppers. i then let them graze for
a bit then drove them back to the valley north of my house then let
them go i then road on too the house dismounted from my horse then
tied them up and went to work on the hog pen i then worked untill
Some few minutes after Eleven oclock A.M. then stoped off come to
the house and taken a rest for a Short while during the time i was
resting my wife diped the water out of the barrel and put the water
in one on the ground i then geered my teem hitched them too my wagon
them (then) my wife and my Self mounted in the wagon i then drove
too the bosque to water my teem and to hall a barrel of water after
the teem drank and i filled the barrel with water i then drove for
my place of abode after arriving at the place we dismounted from my
wagon and i taken the geer off of my teem then fed them. i then
come in doors Seated my Self down by my desk and began to record
the labors of the day up to one one oclock in the after noon as
it was at that time of day when my wife announced our noon meal
Served and on the table readey for to be eat we then a lone Seated
our Selves to the table and portaken of the meal when through with
our meal after the table was cared for and evry thing arranged in
good order we then went for a rest as both of us was muched fateagued
at this writing the couds denotes that there is a Shower coming
up from the South So we remained in doors and taken a rest for Some
time. I then Saddled my horse mounted on him then rode over to
Crawford after my mail Some Coffee an brass. tax to fasten a
bottom in a chair after making the purchase i then mounted on my
horse then. rode for my place of a bode. After arriving at home i
then unsaddled my horse put him in the lot then fed him and his
mate Some oats i then come in doors Seated my Self down by my
desk and examened Some of Dewvits circulars in regard to medisons
(medicine) after getting through i then began to record the labor
of the evenings work as my wife finished washing he (her) day washin
that She began on yesterday during of the time i was taking a
minute of the labor reather my wife was a Sewing on a garment
and it was falling a Slow winter rain at the Same time from the
South but not enough to benefit the ground in wettng of it to a
great extent just enough to wet the weeds and grass. I received
a letter from my Daughter Virginia Frownfelter. of Joshua. Johnson.
County. Texas this evening being Saturday evening September the
first 1900 hundred all were well now i have turned my teem in
the upper field and have watered and fed the calve and my wife
have fed her piggs So that ends the days work out Side and in a
very Short while we will have our evenings meal served for to eat
then we will portake of or meal and when through and the table
cared for and every thing put a way in order we will then depart
to our bed of repose by first asking the Lord to gard and protect
us through the present night as he has through the day just passed
and gone, and when done with these frail bodys of ours to hand us
down too our grave in peace with the (Thee) and all man Kind and

It came a shower (Arp) dripping rain at or near 5-oclock
September the first AD 1900 hundred from the south it come
a Slow mis (mist) of rain on September the first 1900 hundred

(North) Side Sunday the Lords day we are commanded to keep
it holey also to neither work no (nor) play for it is Gods
holey day September the 2th AD 1900 hundred opened up quite
a dark gloomey morning very cloudey much like falling weathe
(weather) very heavery mist or a dew the last night past which
makes it very disagreeable to travel through the grass and
weeds . Thermometer at half past eight oclock this morning
registers 74 Degrees tempature. my wife and my Self were out
of our bed of repose at our usual time this morning clothes
on readey for buisiness my wife prepared the morning meal
whilst i furnished water for the house as it was too damp
to be out of doors earley in the morning So after the meal
was Served then placed on the breakfast table and announced
readey for to be eat, we Seated our Selves to the table, then
portaken of the Same, a lone after we were through, with
mornings meal my wife taken care of her breakfast table whilst
i taken my walking Stick then walked up to the rail road taken
the north end of the Same then travailed (traveled) Said road
Some one hundred and fifty yards north of the culprit in dock
(Dock) Coffmans pasture from which i turned South west from Said
road and travailed (traveled) Some to (two)hundred yards and come
upon the turkeys that i Started out to look far as about thirty
of them had failed to come up on the last night past i then drove
them home. After arriving at the place and getting them quited down
i then come in doors and began to make out my dailey record of
our labor and the weather the wind this morning is still from the
South very Soft to the touch during the time i was ingaged in
this writing my wife. milked her cows after getting through She
then Strained and put a way the milk that She has just milked
then to work with her breakfast table then put evry thing in
good Shape for the day,then we taken a rest Spell as it was the
Sabbath day and a day for rest. and in a Short while after we
we taken our rest J.M.Costley come to Spend the day with the old
people bringing his familey with him he had come down from near
Goldthwait mills County Texas where he resides as the aim at
Starting home at near five Oclock in the evening he hitched his
teem to his wagon then drove back to Mrs Richardsons to take and
earley Start for there place of a bode, on tomorrow morning, after
they departed i then Saddled Walker mounted on him led Redbird too
the Bosque to water after they had drank i then tied Red bird to a
tree then rode up to Ed Costleys old place to See a Sick Lady that
was Sick and has been for Some time i found her no better Still had
fever after remaining with then (them) for Some bit i bid them the
time of day mounted on my horse then rode for my place beinging my
led horse as i come home after ariving at the place i unSaddled my
horse the (then) mounted him again then taken them too my upper
field and turned them in to graze, to night, i then walked back to
the lot and watered then Staked the calves out too grass. i then
come in doors washed my hands and face. afterwards finished up
recording the labors of the day and the condition of the weather
through out the day, but before i made a final finish of the Record
of the days work i had to leave off. my writing and eat my evenings
meal when through my wife attended too her Suppertable, whilst i
finished up recording the events of the day. and now as we are
through we will go too our bed of repose by first asking the Lord
to gard and protect us through the present night as he has through
the day just passed and gone, and when done with these frail bodys
of ours to hand us down to our grave in peace with the (Thee) and
and all man Kind and in heaven Save us is my prayer to night-Amen
