Three SCALLORN men who joined the Confederate forces in Texas, Thomas Jefferson, William M., and Anderson SCALLORN, are believed to be the half-brothers of my Joab SCALLORN (1823-1902). My T.J. and W.M. were born c. 1833 and 1838 in Louisiana. Were these the soldiers who joined the forces in Travis Co.? Does anyone know what happened to these men after the war? Did they have families?

SUTTON, Phillip D(avid). Phillip D. SUTTON is believed to have been born around 1832 in Travis or Falls Co. He married Sarah Jane SCOTT (born about June 1840 in Arkansas?) probably in early 1870's, but it is very likely that he was married and widowed before her. Phillip D. SUTTON was shot and killed in Lampassas 1873 late at night at his home. He and/or his wife may have been part or full blooded Indian. Phillip D. SUTTON fathered my gr. grm. Emma Linne SUTTON (b. 1874, married William Adolphus JONES 1892); Sarah SUTTON (b. 1871, married Claude Carr). There were two other children: Willy (Willie) SUTTON and Iscoe SUTTON (born Feb. 14 1869, married Susan Emily BROWN in 1894), but it is unclear if Willy was truly Phillip's child from a previous marriage, or if he was Sarah SCOTT's child from a previous marriage (in several census he is listed as SUTTON, but in at least one census he is listed as ROBBINS). I am very interested in knowing the circumstances behind Phillip D. SUTTON's shooting, and the names of the parents of both Phillip SUTTON and Sarah Jane SCOTT. Thanks!

I'm looking for any information pertaining to any of these: Leonados William BARKER and Martha Rebecca PERRY BARKER, parents of Georgianne Vincene BARKER WHITEHEAD, who was born in Bastrop County in 1854. Leonados (L.W.) was the son of John and Permelia BARKER. I believe L.W. may have been a carpenter in Lexington around 1860. Martha Rebecca is said to be the daughter of Benjamin PERRY and Eliza KIMBRO, of unknown origin. Georgianne married James Bradford WHITEHEAD in Williamson County and lived in Liberty Hill, Williamson County, in the late 1800's.

MORELAND / MAHAN I believe my gggggrandparents, George Washing MORELAND and Elizabeth MAHAN, were married in Lampasas on 11 Sep 1845. I know Lampasas Co. was not formed at that time so I will try Bell and Travis Co. also. G.W. MORELAND was born 20 Sep 1819 and Elizabeth was born 17 Sep 1816. Their children may have been Pinchney Alexander, John Marion, Peter, Franklin Pierce, Mary Susan, Francis, and George Washington . These were copied for me out of an old bible and the spelling may not be correct. I think G.W. MORELAND came to Texas from Alabama.

John MORRIS and Mary HAMILTON md. sometime after 1850 and were living in Burnet Co. in 1870 (1870 TX Census). They died ca. 1873 leaving about ten children, most of them minors. Mary's father was John HAMILTON III. The City of Burnet is located on the John HAMILTON League. He had land in Williamson Co. and Travis Co. and lived at Webberville in eastern Travis Co. The HAMILTON's are buried in the J.J. Manor Cemetery in Webberville. We do not know when or where Mary and John MORRIS were married or buried. We do not know anything about John MORRIS except that he was b. in GA. Would like to know more. Also, my ancestors Robert Haynes POGUE and his wife Martha Jerusha ABERNATHY lived in Burnet Co. at Fairland, (after living in Milam Co. 4-5 yrs.) and are buried in the Churchyard at Crownover Chapel there. Evidently they settled in that area during the time the open range was being fenced and were in the cedar fence post business. One of their grandsons, "B" POGUE was Burnet Co. Judge for 14 years and, last I heard, still lives there. I'd enjoy communication with anyone researching this line of the POGUE family.

I am trying to find family of John DOUGHERTY who was born abt. 1842 in Missouri and his wife, Rebecca DYER who was also born in Missouri abt. 1846. Their first child was born in St. James, Phelps Co., Mo. on 23 Oct. 1866, the second child was born in Mo. on 23 Oct. 1868 and the third child was born in Sulphur Springs, Hopkins County, Texas on 3 July 1873/74, and it is said that the last child was born in Austin, Texas. The children's names are William John, Elizabeth "Lizzie", Mary Bell "Mollie", and James Edward. John died in Texas and Rebecca remarried a man by the last name of HINES and moved to Louisiana. She died, the second husband ran off and the children were left to fend for themselves, the oldest being only 16. John DOUGHERTY worked for the railroad and I hope someone has information on this family or on the railroad timetable in Hopkins Co. I would appreciate any help. Thanks!
